Dr. Stephan Ong Tone, MD, PhD, FRCSC

Dr. Stephan Ong Tone is a clinician-scientist and Cornea specialist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center and Sunnybrook Research Institute, and an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences and Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. He completed his MD-PhD at McGill University, Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Toronto, and Cornea Fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School. His potential as a clinician-scientist has been recognized through numerous awards including the prestigious Claes H. Dohlman MD, PhD, Fellowship Award by the Dohlman Society. To date he has over 32 peer-reviewed publications in high impact journal, and has received research grants through Fighting Blindness Canada and the Eye Bank Association of America. His research is focused on understanding the pathogenesis of Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy, and developing strategies to promote corneal endothelial regeneration and cellular migration.
