STC: Laser Simulation and Cost-Effective Video Recording
My Session Status
This multidisciplinary STC is aimed at those looking to
improve their imaging skills and in-clinic procedure techniques, giving
participants an opportunity to train and learn how to train others on
artificial eyes with realistic tissue feedback prior to performing the
procedure in clinic or on call. It will also be of interest to
physicians/administrators wishing to trial ophthalmic laser equipment. The
course may be particularly useful for those involved in education and research,
as we will showcase useful and cost effective tips and tricks to capture
clinical video and photos for education, research, and presentations.
Participants will rotate through a number of stations. There
will be stations with artificial eyes with realistic tissue feedback for YAG
Laser Iridotomy, YAG Capsulotomy, Laser Trabeculoplasty, Micropulse
Cyclophotocoagulation, and Laser Retinopexy.
The cost-effective video recording section will have
participants rotating through a number of stations. These include: 1) Smartphone adapters for
slit lamps and microscopes; 2) Modifications to point of view cameras to allow
microscope recording of 4K video; 3) Use of point of view cameras for doing
surgical ergonomics; and 4) Modified point of view cameras allowing for point
of view video recording for non-microscope based surgery such as strabismus and
oculoplastics.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Integrate artificial eyes into simulation
training for commonly encountered lasers in residency and comprehensive
practice, including YAG Peripheral Iridotomy, YAG Capsulotomy, Laser
Trabeculoplasty, Micropulse Cyclophotocoagulation, and Laser Retinopexy
- Apply smartphone technology to slit lamps and
microscopes to capture clinical photos and videos for education and research
- Demonstrate the use of wearable, point of view (POV) cameras to capture clinical photos and videos in strabismus, glaucoma, retina, and oculoplastics surgery for ergonomic awareness, education and research
