Participants will gain hands-on experience in anterior
vitrectomy to manage vitreous prolapse encountered during anterior segment
surgery. They will gain a better understanding of vacuum and pump settings to
optimize fluidics for various tasks. They will also compare various models for
anterior vitrectomy in the wet-lab setting, including bimanual anterior
vitrectomy and anterior chamber maintainer models. This segment will also
contrast options for secondary IOL placement, including sulcus IOL insertion
and advanced approaches for preservation of 3 piece IOLs with reverse optic
capture (ROC). Faculty will include both experienced cataract and vitreoretinal
surgeons.

NOTE: This course is being offered twice: at 3:45 pm on Friday, then again at 10:45 am on Saturday. Please be sure to register for only one session. A limited number of three different models of
phaco machines will be available for use during the Cataract STC. Choice of
phaco machine will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the approach to anterior vitrectomy, including techniques to stain vitreous and minimize vitreous loss
- Integrate knowledge of fluidics to optimize phaco machine settings for anterior vitrectomy
- Analyze various models for anterior vitrectomy
