
GIS Professor for the GIS (Cartography and Applications Specialist) Post Diploma program and the Environmental Technician program at Sir Sandford Fleming College, Lindsay, ON. Eastern Section Director, BeSpatial / urisa ontario and GoGeomatics Peterborough Group Leader and Event Organizer. Marikka is a graduate of the University of North Texas and has been GISP certified by GISCI since 2008. She has 20 years of experience in the field of GIS. Her work experience includes providing GIS services to support Municipal Operations and the Engineering Consulting Industry, as well as, educating College students about various aspects of GIS in her role as a Professor. She joined Fleming College, as a GIS Professor in 2014, and has taught Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, Geovisualization and Cartographic Design techniques, Municipal Mapping and GIS and Geomatics Field Survey techniques. As Eastern Section Director of BeSpatial / urisa ontario, Marikka works with the Board of Directors and Committees to bring GIS industry education, career development and networking opportunities to GIS Professionals and students in Eastern Ontario. As the GoGeomatics Peterborough Group Leader she has organized monthly meetings with Guest Speakers from the GIS industry (MNRF, PCI Geomatics, J.D. Barnes Ltd./First Base Solutions Inc./OnSite Locates Inc Esri Canada, Region of Durham, GM BluePlan, Airborne Imaging, Avenza, City of Peterborough GIS) to support GIS networking opportunities in the local community.
