Leander Campbell

Leander Campbell is a Remote Sensing Specialist with the Earth Observation team at Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) located on the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, Canada. As a Geography major from the University of Waterloo with specializations in both Geomatics and Environmental Resource Economy, Leander has spent over 25 years working with aerial and satellite imagery in both the public and private sectors focusing on environmental issues. 

He has worked on a number of diverse projects over the years from topics such a lake ice freeze/thaw cycles; to global forest monitoring, to developing sensor web technology.  Leander joined AAFC in 2006 to provide support for their initial research in to identifying agricultural crop types with satellite imagery, and now he is the lead for the operational Space-based Annual Crop Inventory project. 

As one of AAFC’s main points of contact for the RADARSAT Constellation Mission, Leander is actively involved in the Government of Canada’s SAR community, sitting on numerous inter-departmental working groups. 

A strong believer in post-secondary work opportunities, for over a decade Leander has sought to bring the best and brightest students in Canada to AAFC via co-operative education hiring.
