The successful implementation of the S-100 suite hinges on various factors, with final product specification and comprehensive testing of route monitoring layers being paramount. Canada is proposing an international designated area for these tests, underscoring its commitment to the S-100 suite's success and global maritime safety. Canada has selected the St-Lawrence River in Québec as the S-100 sea trial area for 2025. The trial aims to evaluate the S-100 system's ability to ingest and display datasets such as S-101 Electronic Navigational Charts, S-102 High-Resolution Bathymetry, S-104 Water Levels, S-111 Surface Currents, S-124 Navigational Warnings, S-128 Catalog, and S-129 Underkeel Clearance Management Data. Open to IHO Member States, stakeholders, and manufacturers, the trial will provide comprehensive coverage of all S-100 route monitoring layers. Data will be available from June to November 2025, with 500 accounts created for participant feedback. The trial will test real-world scenarios to assess the integrated portrayal of different datasets and prepare for the official launch in January 2026. Successes and issues will be documented and reported to the IHO and IMO. Participants are encouraged to utilize this opportunity to test the S-100 systems and provide valuable feedback. This initiative will help identify potential issues and contribute to the successful implementation of the S-100 systems by January 2026.
