Global Mapper is universally recognized as a leader in the ever-widening field of 3D mapping technology. As lidar and other point cloud formats have become increasingly ubiquitous, the software has evolved and adapted to meet the changing needs and demands of the worldwide GIS community.
During this four-hour workshop, we will introduce and explore a broad range of Global Mapper Pro's 3D and terrain analysis functionality. After a brief overview of the principal features and functions of the software, we will introduce a series of point cloud processing workflows. This includes automatic classification, QC, segmentation In the second half of the workshop, we will turn our attention to Global Mapper Pro's extensive terrain analysis functionality. To begin, we will transform a point cloud into a raster Digital Elevation Model (DEM), which will be the basis of many of the subsequent workflows. Next, we will generate contours and breaklines to delineate patterns in the terrain. We will then follow a series of workflows that involve volume calculation and terrain modification, including the Terrain Painting tool. Finally, we will conclude the workshop by exploring several options for capturing and sharing terrain and other 3D datasets, including 3D flythrough recording and 3D PDF creation.
This concise workshop will provide a perfect introduction to the powerful 3D mapping functionality in Global Mapper Pro, and is equally well suited for existing or prospective users of the software.
