New Standards for Utility Infrastructure Data
Arising 3-D modeling, visualization, and design software (e.g., BIM, VDC) greatly enhance advanced project designs with sophisticated risk analytics and conflict resolutions that accommodate existing infrastructure and enable proactive/predictive engineering and construction. However, without standardized and accurate utility data, new advanced digital project delivery and damage prevention technologies are compromised. The new ASCE 75 "Standard Guideline for Recording and Exchanging Utility Infrastructure Data" is a digital 3D standard for documenting newly installed and exposed infrastructure, and compliments the revised ASCE 38 "Standard Guideline for Investigating and Documenting Existing Utilities". This presentation introduces ASCE 75 and discusses changes to ASCE 38; additionally, brief coverage will be provided on the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) interoperable standard for exchanging underground data entitled "Model for Underground Data Definition and Integration" (MUDDI) for which both ASCE standards serve as key input. The ASCE standards are on track to be published and available for use in the Spring of 2022. This presentation will provide a high level overview of the standards and how they will be implemented.
