Catherine Jasserand is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow at KU Leuven (Belgium). She is part of CiTiP (Center for IT & IP law) as a postdoctoral researcher, where she is researching the use of facial recognition technologies in public spaces for surveillance purposes and their impact on the rights to privacy and data protection. She studied law in France and in the United States (University of California, Berkeley). She is qualified as a lawyer in both countries. She obtained her PhD in the field of biometrics and privacy at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands). Before joining the University of Groningen, she worked several years as a researcher in IP and media law at the Institute for Information Law (IViR, University of Amsterdam) and in several European institutions. Her publications cover data protection, privacy, biometrics, and IP and media law topics. Catherine is a regular speaker at privacy and technical conferences linked to biometric technologies.
