Elsa Catalano is a lawyer, expert in privacy, data protection, and cyber law. She is the Group Data Protection Officer (DPO) of the Engineering Ingegneria Informatica Group and handles the legal aspects related to the protection of personal data in the activities that the Group carries out in the various countries in which it operates (12 countries worldwide - Europe, USA, and South America). Elsa, who has been dealing with compliance for over 15 years and provides consultancy to Italian and foreign clients, assists as DPO Engineering in day-to-day activities and innovative development projects related to the application of new technologies. The company is present in all market segments (from Finance to Healthcare, from Utilities to Manufacturing, and many others) and supports the needs of clients by constantly anticipating and exploring the evolution of technologies, particularly in Cloud, Cybersecurity, Metaverse, AI & Advanced Analytics.
Before joining Engineering, Elsa held the role of Global Data Protection & Privacy Manager at the Eni Group and led the Eni Group in defining the Privacy Compliance Program and business data-driven strategies.
Elsa graduated in Law from the University of La Sapienza in Rome and obtained a Master's degree in Tax Law from the University of Luiss Guido Carli in Rome. From the beginning of her career, she has worked in the compliance sectors, assisting many of the main operators in the energy sector, providing daily legal consultancy, and representing their interests before the competent Italian Authorities.
Elsa's skills also include consumer protection and Legislative Decree 231/01, Anti Money Laundering regulations (Legislative Decree 231/2007), and human rights, aspects that make the analysis of data protection risks integrated into the broader context of various compliance regulations.
She is a contract professor in privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity law at the Alma Mater University (Bologna), the Luiss Guido Carli University of Rome, and the Bocconi University (Milan).
