Carmen Casado is the Global Data Protection Officer (DPO) and the Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Global Privacy Office since March 2021. She is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive privacy program across WFP, the UN’s largest humanitarian organization, operating in 120 countries and in some of the world’s most constrained environments.

With over 20 years of experience in the data protection and information technology field, Carmen has been providing legal advice in privacy and data protection to highly regulated sectors, particularly in the life sciences (healthcare, biotech, and pharma), advertising and telecoms.

From 2015 to 2021 she was as part of the Amgen Inc. Global Privacy Office – the United States’ largest independent pharmaceutical company – where she supported the EU region on data protection and privacy matters. In that capacity, she represented Amgen at the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA). She also served 9 years with Fieldfisher Jausas, during which time she led its Technology, Media & Telecom Division.

Carmen has contributed to several European Commission-funded research projects and lectures in various university master's programs on big data, technology, security, and data protection. She has also contributed to privacy professional associations (APEP, CEDPO). Carmen holds an LLM in Computer & Communications Law by Queen Mary University of London and a law degree from the University of A Coruna.
