The work to promote the right to protection of personal data carried out for 17 years by the AFAPDP through the action of its 27 members, contributes to the implementation of the Bamako Declaration. The main mission of data protection authorities, the one that guides their action and the use of their resources, is the protection of individuals. This is reflected in the objectives (Article 1) of many privacy laws in the French-speaking world.

To achieve this objective, the authorities must move forward on several fronts simultaneously: informing individuals, improving their own understanding of emerging technologies, dealing with complaints, conducting checks, imposing penalties and also providing support. DPAs must enable data controllers to achieve compliance outside the simple chain of repression.

This requires an in-depth dialogue with data controllers, as well as the development of relevant tools that meet their needs.
