Hannah Mayer is a Senior Counsel for OPCL. She entered the Department of Justice (DOJ) in 2016 as an Attorney General’s Honors Attorney. OPCL is responsible for protecting the privacy and civil liberties of individuals through review, oversight, and coordination of the Department’s privacy program, and for advising Department leadership on the privacy implications of legislative and regulatory proposals. At OPCL, Ms. Mayer supports the duties and responsibilities of the Department’s Chief Privacy and Civil Liberties Officer, provides legal advice and guidance to the Department and its components on privacy and civil liberties issues, including the Drug Enforcement Administration and Civil Division, advises on DOJ’s international efforts on data privacy and protection, cross-border data flows, and bilateral and multilateral agreements, is the lead attorney for the Global Cross-Border Privacy Rules Forum, and represents OPCL in the Department’s and UAS/CUAS working group. Ms. Mayer received her Juris Doctorate from American University, Washington College of Law in Washington, DC. She also received her Master of Arts in international affairs from American University, School of International Service. Her undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts in political science, international relations emphasis, with a minor in history from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional-Government (CIPP/G).
