DeBrae Kennedy-Mayo is Faculty of Law & Ethics at the Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). She is an internationally recognized expert on privacy and cross-border data flows. Kennedy-Mayo researches and writes on legal and policy issues concerning privacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and technology. She has spoken at numerous conferences in Europe, India, China, the U.K., and the U.S. Kennedy-Mayo is a Senior Fellow with the Cross-Border Data Forum (CBDF).

Kennedy-Mayo is the co-author of the 2018 edition, the 2020 edition, and the 2024 edition of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) book entitled “U.S. Private-Sector Privacy: Law and Practice for Information Privacy Professionals” – the book used by individuals preparing for the IAPP certification exam on U.S. private-sector privacy. Utilizing this textbook, Kennedy-Mayo co-teaches the online class known as “Privacy for Professionals,” which is part of Georgia Tech’s online Masters in Cybersecurity and online Masters in Analytics.

Kennedy-Mayo has been a licensed attorney in the U.S. for more than 20 years. Prior to becoming an attorney, Kennedy-Mayo worked for U.S. President Jimmy Carter at The Carter Presidential Center.

Kennedy-Mayo is the co-founder of AI in Perpetuity, a startup providing consulting services concerning AI model cards and dedicated to the commercialization of academic research on privacy-enhancing technologies.
