
Robin Wilton is the Internet Society’s Senior Director for Internet Trust. He is a specialist in online security, privacy and digital identity, with 40 years’ experience in IT, in roles including systems engineer, industry analyst, founder and board member, policy advocate, and research mentor.
Robin joined the Internet Society in 2012, and has represented it in the OECD’s Internet Technical Advisory Committee, the Council of Europe’s committee on privacy and data protection, and in numerous industry forums. He has a close working relationship with UCL's STEaPP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy) programme, and the Horizon Digital Economy Research centre at Nottingham University. He currently leads the team delivering the Network and Distributed Systems Security (NDSS) Symposium, a top-4 global cybersecurity conference.
In the policy domain, Robin has been a key part of the Internet Society's drive to protect the individual's ability to communicate securely using strong encryption, and has conducted several briefing sessions for members of the UK House of Lords on the consequences of laws that undermine confidential communication.
