Annan Mortensen
Annan Mortensen was appointed Senior Advisor to the Chief Privacy Officer at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in August 2022. Before joining DHS, Annan held significant oversight responsibilities at the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, where he focused on investigations that related to U.S. intelligence and law enforcement. The Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board is an independent agency with a mission to ensure that U.S. efforts to prevent terrorism are balanced with privacy and civil liberties.
Throughout his career, Annan has held other privacy and policy positions within DHS. As an attorney-advisor at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency, he provided critical privacy related oversight and guidance. Annan began his federal career as an advisor specializing in issues related to physical screening and traveler facilitation programs within the DHS Office of Strategy, Policy and Plans.
Annan holds a Juris Doctor (J.D) from Howard University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in International Affairs from The George Washington University.
