Chiara Romano has been working at the Italian Data Protection Authority since 2002, most recently on EU-related and international matters.

She contributes regularly to the activity of the European Data Protection Board, representing the Italian Authority in various expert subgroups. She has also been actively involved in the working group on certifications within the Italian Authority dealing with data protection certification issues. 

She has taught at the Sapienza University of Rome on EU public law, delivered numerous public presentations, and published several papers on fundamental rights and data protection issues.

Introduction Recent years have seen the emergence of regional and international data protection certifications, including the European Data Protection Seal in Europe and the Global CBPR. This session will discuss the opportunities and challenges for international convergence and interoperability in terms of data protection certifications.
