Convention 108+, the ‘modernised’ version of the Council of Europe’s data protection treaty, is positioned to play a key role in shaping global data governance and privacy regulations for years to come. This treaty aims to create a more solid framework for data protection to keep pace with the digital world, and to extend beyond Europe’s borders. The esteemed speakers of this panel will present Convention 108+ in the context of striking a balance between individual rights, transparency, and cross-border cooperation.

Key questions

  • How does Convention 108+ build upon previous data protection frameworks, and what new elements does it introduce?
  • What are the practical implications of Convention 108+? What are the challenges and opportunities that may arise in this context?
  • What impact will Convention 108+ have on non-European countries and their approach to data protection law?
