Helga Thorisdottir was appointed Data Protection Commissioner for Iceland on 1 September 2015. Previously, Helga worked for the Icelandic Medicines Agency as a senior legal officer and later as an interim director. She also worked at the Ministry of Education, the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels, the Icelandic Parliament and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Helga holds a Cand.Jur. degree in law from the University of Iceland. She has also completed an AMP course from IESE Business School in Barcelona and a diploma in French from Université Paul Valery.
