International organizations operate in a unique context and, as a result, face distinct challenges in developing privacy policies and personal data protection practices. Indeed, due to their status having privileges and immunities, International Organizations are not subject to laws and regulations (and related enforcement) from jurisdictions where they are established and/or where they operate.

In this session, privacy leaders from three multilateral development banks (MDBs) will share how their customized, internal regulatory frameworks are rooted in privacy as a global ethical imperative.  Learn how these international organizations are forging tailored privacy frameworks and building programs grounded in the belief that privacy is not just a requirement, but the right thing to do. We’ll share the challenges and strategies for navigating data protection across multiple borders and achieving privacy compliance as the right thing to do, in alignment with their international development culture and mandate. The panelists will also share reflections on how these efforts are driving international cooperation via a new MDB Privacy Toolkit.
