Next Generation IoT: Emerging Technologies
Combining
multiple IoT platforms into a single system can enable many new applications,
but also creates multiple trust and privacy problems. It raises many other
high-level interoperability challenges, particularly, if the IoT platforms
are controlled by different organisations. To tackle these challenges and to
enable trust without relying on centralised authorities or trusted third
parties, DLTs, smart contracts, and interledger transactions can often be
effectively exploited. DLTs can maintain irrefutable logs of events and smart contracts allow transparent, decentralised, and robust automation. Interledger transactions technologies allow the effective joint utilisation of different types of DLTs which achieve different trade-offs in terms of functionality, openness, level of trust, costs (monetary, ecological, and others), latency, throughput, consensus algorithm, etc. Thus, while individual DLTs are most suitable for different types of applications, interledger technology can create and support large federations and provide future-proofness by allowing the gradual move to new DLTs and systems more generally. It also allows different ledgers to exchange data and value with each other and thereby compartmentalise different types of data to different ledgers or DLTs, thus improving privacy, reducing cost, and improving performance. This workshop, organized by H2020 project SOFIE, will offer the audience the latest research innovations from this area and show how the research results are implemented and will be moved to the industry exploitation phase. The workshop will present concrete use cases that utilize DLTs to solve real-world problems in the areas of logistics, energy, and mobile gaming. Read more about SOFIE: https://www.sofie-iot.eu |
