Mr Miguel Bernal-Castillero
Miguel Bernal-Castillero is the Director of International, Provincial and Territorial Relations at the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC), where he advises on the OPC’s multiple global and domestic initiatives. Prior to this position, Miguel was Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff to two privacy commissioners, overseeing a transition in leadership and providing strategic advice and review on a wide range of operational, legislative and corporate matters.
Prior to joining the OPC, Miguel was an analyst with the Library of Parliament where he conducted specialized research and analysis for Parliamentarians and Parliamentary committees, including the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics and the Sub-Committee on International Human Rights. His past experiences also include legal projects in Rwanda and at the Special Court for Sierra Leone.
Called to the Québec Bar in 2009 and to the Law Society of Ontario in 2010, Miguel holds honours degrees in Political Science and History (B.A. ’03), in Civil Law (B.C.L. ’09) and Common Law (LL.B. ’09) from McGill University and a Master’s Degree in History (M.A. ’04) from the Superior Council for Scientific Research (CSIC, Spain).
