RISE: AAPIs and Pop Culture
RISE is an in-depth interview with two of the theatre community's most visible AAPI artists, both of whom continue to be featured in hit Broadway shows while advocating for others. Shoba Narayan is making musical theatre history as Broadway’s first South Asian to play Jasmine in Aladdin. She has long been a pioneer, being the first South Asian woman to play lead roles in several of our most beloved musicals of the last decade including Hamilton, The Great Comet, and Wicked. Kelvin Moon Loh is currently appearing as Otho in Beetlejuice, a role he created. He has been seen on Broadway in The King and I and Spongebob Squarepants, as well as at The Public in Here Lies Love. As a writer and an advocate he has been on the forefront of many of the changes currently rocking the Great White Way.
