When thinking of theatre, what comes to mind may be commercial Broadway, community theatre, or a touring production. Regardless of their differences, these are interpreted as “theatre” because they involve acting, artistry, individual interpretation, and collaboration. These practices are commonplace for cosplayers, whose work may be considered theatre if not for the fact that cosplay is largely accessible, often done online and at conventions. Check out this panel featuring cosplayers and theatre makers alike as they challenge the definition of “theatre” and discuss how accessibility, or the lack of, often changes we think theatre should, or should not, be.
