Cosplay as Theatre: A Discussion

When thinking of theatre, what comes to mind may be commercial Broadway, community theatre, or a touring production. Regardless of their differences, these are interpreted as “theatre” because they involve acting, artistry, individual interpretation, and collaboration. These practices are commonplace for cosplayers, whose work may be considered theatre if not for the fact that cosplay is largely accessible, often done online and at conventions.
