For nearly 30 years, Allan Altman has been head of production for Video Artists International, Inc. (vaimusic.com), supervising the DVD release of hundreds of performing arts programs, including Mary Martin’s first two live telecasts of "Peter Pan" (1955/1956), "Amahl and the Night Visitors" (1955), Barbara Cook in "Bloomer Girl" (1956), Mary Martin and John Raitt in "Annie Get Your Gun" (1957), Groucho Marx in "The Mikado" (1960), and Ethel Merman’s appearances on the "Bell Telephone Hour." In addition to writing booklet notes for numerous DVDs and CDs, Altman has also contributed reviews and articles for Opera News, American Record Guide, Carnegie Hall programs, etc. He has co-produced several CDs, including "Berlin Lieder," a collection of Irving Berlin songs performed by opera star Marilyn Horne, tenor Robert White, and jazz pianist Dick Hyman. Altman lives in Upper Manhattan with his husband, a research scientist who shares his love for Broadway.
