Ty Defoe stems from the Oneida/Ojibwe tribes of Wisconsin. An NYC-based NDN and trans* playwright, book and lyric writer, he is a Dramatist Guild member and a mentor at the Alaskan Cultural Heritage Center Playwright Initiative and East Coast Two-Spirit Society advocating for trans* awareness. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from CalArts, Goddard College, and NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at Tisch. Currently, Ty is TCG’s Leading the Charge: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Fellow. He holds a Grammy Award for Come to Me Great Mystery: Native American Healing Songs and other notable awards from the Indigenous Heritage Festival, Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Johnny Mercer Foundation, and CAP21.
