Tony Award-winning writer/director Gerard Alessandrini most recently directed Anything Can Happen In The Theater, the Musical World of Maury Yeston at the York Theatre. Currently The York is presenting Forbidden Broadway: The Next Generation which recently opened to acclaimed reviews. He is also known for writing and directing the hit spoof, Spamilton: An American Parody which played to sold-out houses Off-Broadway and in Chicago, Los Angeles, and London and is currently on a National Tour as well as all the editions of Forbidden Broadway and Forbidden Hollywood in New York, Los Angeles and around the world.
Forbidden Broadway has spawned 25 editions, 12 cast albums and a 30-year run in New York. Television & recording credits include: writing comedy specials for Bob Hope and Angela Lansbury on NBC, Carol Burnett on CBS and special lyrics for Barbra Streisand’s latest album, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway.
Gerard is the recipient of an Obie Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, 2 Lucille Lortel Awards, 7 Drama Desk Awards for Forbidden Broadway and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Drama League. In 2006, he received A Special Tony Award Honor for Excellence In Theater.
