In 2019, beloved Tony- and Grammy-winning Spring Awakening collaborators Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik reunited for the soaring new musical, Alice by Heart, an inspired new vision of the Alice in Wonderland story which they wrote alongside Drama Desk nominee Jessie Nelson (Waitress). The musical's world premiere was a sold-out, smash hit off-Broadway at MCC Theater, spawning a legion of fans and a much-beloved original cast recording. Eager to celebrate the musical's success, and expand its expressive story, Sater has now written a novel (his debut, in fact), also called Alice by Heart, which is both a companion to and a thrilling evolution of the musical's heartrending tale of the redemptive power of love and a story well told. The novel is being released on February 4, 2020 by Razorbill Books, a division of Penguin Random House.
To track the journey from stage to page, Sater will be joined in conversation at BroadwayCon by his collaborators on the musical, Sheik and Nelson, as well as stars from the cast of the world premiere production of Alice by Heart: Broadway favorites Grace McLean (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812), Colton Ryan (Girl from the North Country) and Wes Taylor (SpongeBob SquarePants).
