"Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things": Examining the Lack of Disabled Characters in Increasingly Diversified Media

What:
Lecture
When:
11:00 AM, Sunday 31 Jul 2016 (50 minutes)
In a time when LGBT fans of The 100 are making waves that reach Hollywood and the lauded Golden Trio of the latest Star Wars is incredibly diverse, it’s easy to say that we've turned a representational corner. However, for those of us who view the world through disability-colored lenses, there is still a significant amount of progress to be made. This presentation will look at a short history of disability representation in media and allow attendees the chance to commiserate and brainstorm about the issue and ways in which it could be resolved.
