University of Colorado Boulder graduate Dan Carlin (B.A. History 1989) broke into the television news business in Los Angeles in 1989 and between 1992 and 2002 was a television news reporter and a radio broadcast journalist in the Pacific Northwest. In 2005 he began podcasting and is considered to be a pioneer in the medium. His award-winning podcast Dan Carlin's Hardcore History has been downloaded more than 100 million times.

Carlin is the co-creator of War Remains, the award-winning, WWI “immersive memory” virtual reality experience. He is also the author of the New York Times 2019 bestseller The End is Always Near: Apocalyptic Moments from the Bronze Age Collapse to Nuclear Near Misses. Carlin lives with his wife and two teenage daughters in Eugene, Oregon.
