Reframing History

My Session Status

When:
2:00 PM, Friday 3 Apr 2020 (1 hour)
Where:
Pasadena Convention Center - Washington (Ballroom ABCDE)

Go inside some of the nation’s greatest cultural institutions to explore how museums, historians, educators and others are leading the charge—and “flipping the script”—in presenting a more inclusive and diverse narrative of America’s cultural past.

Libby O’Connell, chief historian emeritus at HISTORY, moderates this thought-provoking discussion featuring Christy Coleman, the first woman and first African American to lead Richmond’s American Civil War Museum, Leslie Greene Bowman, who tackled the challenge of telling the story of slavery as president of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and Kevin Gover, a citizen of the Pawnee tribe who’s launched ground-breaking exhibits as director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.
