Many of us Harry Potter fans identify strongly with one of the Hogwarts houses, using that identity to explain our actions and understand ourselves. But the Hogwarts houses are set in a novel about growing up. The houses represent a step in the growing up process, the step of finding our identity and choosing our values. But that’s just a step. As we mature, we need to move beyond our houses, and yet, curiously, remain loyal to them at the same time. This is a discussion about that process.
