Within the Harry Potter world, friends and relationships are seen as essential. However, for members of a largely online fandom, especially for those members coming of age in a digital world, the way we define a word as simple as "friend" has changed dramatically. In a tight knit community, such as the Harry Potter fandom, the line between “friend” and “celebrity” can be blurred, misused, and downright confusing. And the social interaction of meeting your online friend for the first time can be just as difficult. This panel will discuss friendships in the Harry Potter community.
