Aya Esther Hayashi holds a PhD in Musicology from The Graduate Center, City University of New York. Her dissertation focused on the musicians and musical communities within media fandom - namely, the communities surrounding filk, wizard rock, and the YouTube musicals of Team StarKid and AVbyte. She currently works in New York City as the Development Associate at Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, the most veteran Asian American theatre company on the East Coast.
