Tom Billeter, Augustana’s all-time winningest men’s basketball coach, has led the Vikings to seven 20-win seasons in his 14 years as the bench boss, including a two-year run that included two conference titles and the 2016 National Championship. Billeter led Augustana to a program record 34 wins (34-2) in 2015-16 and the school’s first national championship in men’s basketball, leading the Vikings to a combined record of 65-5 during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. In 19 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Billeter has led his team to 20-plus wins 11 times, compiling a record of 365-200, including 268-150 in 14 seasons at Augustana. Billeter was named the 2015-16 National Coach of the Year by the NABC and Division II Bulletin after being named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year. He has led his teams to the NCAA Tournament 11 times and has tutored the 2015-16 NABC National Player of the Year, a two-time NSIC Player of the Year and two-time NSIC Defensive Player of the Year. Seven players at Augustana have been named Freshman of the Year during Billeter’s tenure. Billeter has seen 10 players score 1,000-plus points at Augustana, including the top four scorers in school history.
 
Billeter got his start in college coaching at the University of Arizona in 1985, serving as a graduate assistant under legendary coach Lute Olson. During his stint at Arizona, Billeter coach Sean Elliot (NBA), Steve Kerr (NBA), Tom Tolbert (NBA), Jud Buechler (NBA) and Kenny Lofton (MLB). From there, Billeter was an assistant coach at Rice from 1987 to 1991 before being named the head coach at North Dakota State. Billeter spent five years at NDSU, leading the Bison to four NCAA Tournament appearances, before returning to the Division I ranks as an assistant under Fran Fraschilla at St. John’s in 1997-98. Billeter then spent five seasons as an assistant coach under Melvin Watkins at Texas A&M.
