Kevin Sutton is in his first season as an assistant coach at Pitt after spending the past three seasons serving in the same capacity at Georgetown. Sutton enters his 10th season as an assistant coach on the collegiate level to go along with a highly successful high school coaching resume.

“Kevin has a wealth of experience and is an excellent teacher and mentor,” said head coach Kevin Stallings. “He is well connected in the recruiting world particularly at the prep school level, internationally and within the ACC footprint. Kevin is a true professional in every sense of the word and we are very excited to have him on our staff.”

Sutton, a coaching veteran with 31 years of experience, joined the Georgetown staff in 2013. He helped the team to a 55-44 record with a pair of postseason appearances during his tenure with the Hoyas. In his second year with the program, Sutton saw Georgetown go 22-11 overall and reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Sutton arrived at Georgetown following two seasons as an assistant coach under Mike Lonergan at George Washington. He also had a pair of two-year stints as an assistant coach at both James Madison and Old Dominion.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Sutton coached at five nationally-ranked high school programs - Flint Hill Prep (1988-90), Harker Prep (1990-92), St. John's Prospect Hall (1992-98), Montrose Christian and Montverde Academy (2004-11) - amassing a 489-102 record and winning two national championships. In 1998, he was the associate head coach on the USA Today Super 25 National Championship team and in 2007, he was the head coach of the Montverde Academy Hoops.Com National Championship team.

At Montverde Academy, Sutton coached seven nationally ranked teams and compiled a 186-33 record, while turning out 55 Division I scholarship athletes and three All-America selections.

Sutton has also been selected as a coach for USA Basketball on three different occasions. He was an assistant coach at the Hoop Festival for the East team, had a two-year stint with the Junior Developmental Team (U16), which won a gold medal at the FIBA Americas Tournament in Argentina, and he was the head coach for the Nike/USA Basketball Hoop Summit, a game showcasing the top 10 international players against the top 10 American players.

Sutton has built a reputation of being an outstanding teacher of the game of basketball, helping more than 130 student-athletes earn college scholarships at all levels. Some of the notable players that Sutton has helped develop include: Cory Alexander (Virginia), Soloman Alibi (Florida State), Arron Bain (Villanova), Jason Capel (North Carolina), Randolph Childress (Wake Forest), Cameron Dollar (UCLA), Kim English (Missouri), Dash Harris (Texas A&M), Patricio Garino (George Washington), Exree Hipp (Maryland), Nate James (Duke), Joseph Katuka (George Washington), George Lynch (North Carolina), Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (UCLA), Steve Moundou-Missi (Harvard), L.D. Williams (Wake Forest) and Serge Zwikker (North Carolina).

Sutton also has more than 20 years of coaching experience at every level of basketball camps and clinics, including the Nike Hoops Jamboree, Nike All-American Camp, Michael Jordan Flight School and the LeBron James Skills Academy, among others.

A 1988 graduate of James Madison, Sutton was a three-year letterwinner for the Dukes.

Sutton and his wife, Beth, have four children, Aaron, Kayleigh, Isaiah and Rileigh.
