Participates in 1 Session

Three-time National Champion head coach Craig Doty is entering his fourth season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Emporia State University, a historic program which was founded in 1901 and plays in one of the best facilities in all of NCAA Division II, White Auditorium.

Doty was introduced on April 27, 2018 as the new head men’s basketball coach at Emporia State University by athletic director Kent Weiser. In nine seasons as a head coach, Doty has won three national championships and has a 197-95 (.675) career head coaching record. Doty’s teams are an unprecedented 29-6 (.829) in post-season play.

Since his arrival in Emporia, Doty wasted no time making noise at the national level of NCAA scholarship basketball. In his first game leading the Hornets, Emporia State defeated #20 NCAA Division II Southwest Minnesota State, 83-74 on the road. Three years later in the 2020-21 season, Emporia State would earn votes in the NCAA Division II national poll for the first time in 13 years. This season featured a 5-1 start in league play and a 91-77 victory over #7 nationally Washburn University in the Turnpike Tussle. ESU took great pride in flexing their muscle against fellow Kansas NCAA DII members going 6-1 against such competition.

In just three years Doty has improved the program from an inherited 4-15 MIAA record to 11-11 in the MIAA while having a winning record in White Auditorium in all three seasons. Under Doty’s leadership, the Hornets won an MIAA tournament game in Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium for the first time since the 2010-11 season. Four ESU student-athletes have signed professional basketball contracts to add to the long list of pro players that Doty has produced in his coaching career.
