Adrian Autry was named head coach at Syracuse University following the completion of the 2022-23 season. He was selected to replace his mentor, Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim, who held the post for 47 years.

Autry had returned to his alma mater when he was named an assistant coach prior to the 2011-12 season. In March of 2017, Autry was promoted to associate head coach.

While at Syracuse he has tutored eventual NBA draft picks Jerami Grant, Tyler Lydon and Chris McCullough. Grant (Portland) and Oshae Brissett (Indiana) have developed into NBA roster mainstays.

Autry has coached the Syracuse forwards and recruited all positions for the Orange. Syracuse has played in the NCAA Tournament in seven of his 12 campaigns as an assistant, including Final Four trips in 2013 and 2016. In November 2016, Autry was honored as a Syracuse LetterWinner of Distinction and in 2017 he received the prestigious Vic Hanson Award from the Hardwood Club.

A product of St. Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx, Autry was a McDonald’s All-American in 1990. He earned first-team All-New York City three times and played on the 1988 New York City and New York State championship squads.

Autry started 116-of-121 games in four seasons with the Orange, a stretch that began in 1990 and ended in 1994. Autry still ranks fifth in career assists (631) and sixth in career steals (217) at Syracuse. The Orange earned NCAA Tournament invitations in 1990-91, 1991-92 and 1993-94.

He graduated from SU with a degree in Speech Communication in 1994.

Autry had a successful professional basketball career, primarily in European leagues. He played for teams in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Turkey and Venezuela. Autry also had stints in the United States Basketball League (USBL).

Autry embarked on a coaching career in January 2006 when he was hired as associate head coach at Bishop Ireton Catholic High School (Va.). He became AAU basketball coach with Nova United in April 2006, leading the 14-Under team and then the 15-Under squad. In September 2007, he became assistant basketball coach at Paul VI High School (Va.). He was named an assistant coach on the AAU Triple Threat squad, working with the 17-Under team, in 2008.

He moved into the collegiate ranks in 2008 when he was hired by then-head coach Seth Greenburg as director of basketball operations at Virginia Tech. He was later elevated to an assistant coach post.

Adrian and his wife, Andrea, reside in Jamesville with their children Trey and Nina. His daughter, Aliyah, is a 2017 graduate of Syracuse and his son, Adrian Jr., earned his degree from the University in 2019.
