There is no “one way” to do things as a coach. Even more so, there’s no “one way” to navigate one’s path through the coaching profession. Head coaches and Assistant coaches all have different backgrounds, ranging from being a former player, to a former manager, to a former CEO of a company. Trying to figure out what’s best for you is the first step in trying to manage your own coaching career. After that, constantly growing as a coach, as a teacher, and as a leader is important. Development for student-athletes takes them from one level to the next, and the same applies to coaches. Getting from where you are now and where you want to go can be difficult unless you have a roadmap in front of you and the desire to get there.
