Attendees will gain an enhanced understanding of what hoarding disorder looks like and how it is defined. This presentation stresses that all work with individuals demonstrating hoarding behaviors must be a client-centered, collaborative process that respects the dignity and worth of the person. The presentation will introduce the basics of what animal hoarding is, and briefly clarify similarities and differences of hoarding of objects and animal hoarding.

  1. Describe the symptoms of hoarding disorder and their associated impairments.
  2. Explain differences and similarities between hoarding of objects and hoarding of animals.
  3. Discuss harm reduction approaches to addressing hoarding behaviors.
