Comment:

Many New England Shelters have developed relocation programs to bring adoptable animals to NE to replace a continuously diminishing local intake, which in and of itself is important. However, as population dynamics continue to evolve throughout the US, areas of overpopulation are becoming more and more concentrated, perhaps it’s time for relocation programs to evolve as well. In this session you’ll learn how the MSPCA-Angell, Charleston Animal Society and the Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County have worked together to use relocation as a starting point to address bigger animal welfare issues in South Carolina and Florida. This presentation will also address transport best practices, common misconceptions about shelters and pet owners in other regions as well as ways New England shelters can best support the needs of sending shelters.
