Providing lower cost, effective veterinary care can reduce financial barriers for pet owners and shelters. The ASPCA and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University have conducted studies that can help the animal welfare community select effective and lower cost treatments. These studies focus on serious but common veterinary issues such as: male cat urinary obstructions, dentistry and pyometra. Results from these studies document approaches that can help reduce costs, making these treatments accessible to those who could not otherwise afford it. Results show that the less expensive treatment can be as effective as a more expensive approach.
