Richard Man is primarily a portrait, fine art, and documentary photographer. His current focus is on long-term large format film portrait projects on various themes; from cosplayers in costume vs. their daily lives, to an honest and compassionate portrayal of transgender people. Also a proficient practitioner of the art of Chinese calligraphy, Richard instills an Eastern sense of beauty and imagery into a great deal of his work.

Some photographers shoot in a loose and intuitive style, while others take a more formal, disciplined approach. Richard adapts his technique to what make sense in the moment: he uses his Leica 35mm cameras for spontaneous street and documentary work, but also utilizes a more deliberate and methodical style with large format and medium format cameras. Portraits are his favorite genre, capturing that 1/30th of a second for eternity.
