| As an avid BL (boys love) fan, & the presenter of the ever growing Church of BL panel series (formerly the Church of Yaoi), as well as the newer Church of BL YouTube channel - I have found myself devoting more and more time in my panels to talking about the more disturbing side of Boys Love manga? It seems to be my particular cup of tea. Over the years of my BL travels, I’ve come across a multitude of the weirdest stuff, and I. Keep. Reading. It. I seek it out? Give me the feelings! This panels main focus is on the most disturbing of BL manga (& occasional anime or drama) that I have in my arsenal as of that convention. We’re talking graphic, hard to read at times, stuff. Similar to reading something of the horror or psychological genre in “normal” media, BL also has these themes, & they are hella interesting. An acquired taste. . .but nonetheless interesting. I find more and more of the attendees at my panels have a growing interest in this genre, as do I, so this panel has done superbly well. During the panel, I mainly go over titles and showcase their weirdness for the world to see. I try to focus on manga, visual novels, anime & live action dramas that I feel are written off or no one seems to talk about? I like having attendees knowing more than they did when they arrived. I refresh my panels every year & always include new titles with every new con season, however there are some classics that I plan to keep around. I very rarely will present the same exact content twice. |
