| Short Description: Nine times out of ten, the kind of content Peachie chooses to consume reflects their grasp on gender, their struggles with PTSD, as well as other mental health issues, and they really wanna talk about that! Come discuss nerdy coping mechanisms & seeing yourself through the characters you consume! (this panel is marked 18+ due to dark discussions involving PTSD that may not be suitable for everyone. Discretion is advised.) Long Description: During COVID, I ended up going down a mental health rabbit hole. I had allot of changes, most of them good, and for the first time since I was probably 11, started seeing a therapist. I ended up seeing parts of myself in a different light, and many of the series I consume, be it manga, books, anime, or live action dramas, all started to make more sense to me now? The characters I always identified with all seemed to make SO much more sense now - because they were me. I was living vicariously through fictional characters to cope with my trauma. I’ve complied a list of my favorites, and why they're my favorites, and wish to share them with fellow broken nerds! Some rubbed me the wrong way but were enlightening - some were just what i needed when i needed them. I also discuss “problematic” characters tropes, and how many relate to these “broken” characters, and should not be judged for it. I'm growing ever more passionate about spreading mental health awareness - but I like to be as real as possible when I talk about it - due to such I marked this panel as 18+. The topics I discuss can get both explicit & kind of dark, and not really suitable for the underage crowd. I provide disclaimers & content warnings at the beginning of the panel, as well as before the beginnings of each title so nobody gets into a series they really shouldn't. I also provide handouts at the end of the panel for anyone who would like one of all the titles I include in my presentation, as well as have a small Q&A at the end. |
