Michael A. Meyer is the Adolph S. Ochs Professor of Jewish History emeritus at HUC-JIR in Cincinnati. He is the author of The Origins of the Modern Jew: Jewish Identity and European Culture in Germany, 1749-1824; Response to Modernity: A History of the Reform Movement in Judaism; and Judaism within Modernity: Essays on Jewish History and Religion. He is a past president of the Association for Jewish Studies and a past international president of the Leo Baeck Institute.
