Gallery visit with Sarah Weiss, Director of The Holocaust & Humanity Center. Sarah Weiss will lead a discussion about what it means to create a new space (HHC opened in January 2019) in the Cincinnati Museum Center, a public space, ensuring the lessons of the Holocaust inspire action today. Meet in the lobby of the hotel at 9:30 AM to walk to museum.
We will display and discuss illustrations from 14th century Spanish and 15th century German Haggadot in which the illustrators have used images of hare hunts as graphic and humorous commentary on the text, and as a visual metaphor for the status of Jews in Europe. Meet in the hotel lobby at 10:00 AM. We will share transportation to the rare book room at HUC–JIR.
Gary P. Zola will lead us on a guided tour through two of Cincinnati’s most historic Jewish cemeteries: The Chestnut Street Cemetery and The Walnut Hills Cemetery. This trip constitutes a rare opportunity to examine the rich history of Reform Judaism in Cincinnati by visiting the final resting places of the men and women who made that history.
