Nir Barkin

Rabbi Nir Barkin, a six generations Jerusalemite, serves as the first director of the newly established Israel Diaspora Department of the Israel Reform and Progressive Movement (IMPRJ). He leads the DOMIM-aLike initiative to build and strengthen relationships between World Reform and Progressive synagogues, in cooperation with the Government of Israel. 
 
Rabbi Nir was one of two spiritual leaders of Congregation YOZMA in Modi’in, a suburb of Jerusalem, from 2005 until 2015. 
 
Nir was a Marketing and Communications specialist in the Israeli High-Tech industry between 1992-1999 prior to his rabbinical journey, and served as a Shaliach in Milwaukee, Wisconsin between 1999-2003. 
 
Barkin served in the Intelligence Corps of the Israel Defense Forces, and is a graduate of the department of Middle Eastern and African studies at Tel Aviv University, receiving his bachelor’s degree cum laude and a  Masters degree from the Hebrew University in Contemporary Jewry studies.
Rabbi Barkin was ordained at HUC-JIR in 2007.
 
Nir is married to Anat and together they have three children, a girl and two boys (24, 21, 16).
