Professional Development
There are all kinds of reasons to withhold a hard feedback from an employee or colleague. We tell ourselves the other person might become defensive, hurt, even angry. So, instead we invoke kavod or chesed, and convince ourselves “it’s no big deal” or “it’s not worth the drama." We avoid the person, invent elaborate work-arounds, stew in silent resentment, complain to others, use humor as a weapon, or eventually say something we regret. There is a simple (not easy) and respectful way to put difficult truths on the table so that real problems get addressed, relationships are strengthened, and everyone learns something. It’s called constructive candor. Come learn with us!
