Marnee and Tannis are both local teachers with a passion for literacy development. This passion brought them together at the University of Alberta where they bonded over their interest in providing literacy instruction at the Div. 3 level. Finding it difficult to balance the fast pace of junior high with the need to provide remediated literacy support, led Tannis, Marnee, and their co-creator Randy to develop a professional development session that focuses on providing Tier 1 and 2 strategies, to support decoding and spelling development of the junior high learner. Aiming to help teachers offer instructional strategies for spelling and word reading that give the biggest "bang for your buck," Marnee and Tannis will present practical and usable strategies that all middle/junior high teachers could incorporate into their practice the very next day.
